ArcheMIS

ArcheMIS - Archaeological Mobile Inventory System - is a database application built to provide local and remote access to the Zeugma Archaeology Project record and files.

The system enables the excavation team to manage archaeological data from initial on-site excavation recording to post-excavation research and analysis. In order to provide mobility ArcheMIS has been developed as a web application using modern responsive layout techniques which in turn deliver seamless integration in both desktop and mobile devices.

Key Features

USER ACCESS LEVELS
Multiple user accounts can be created and given certain permissions in order to perform various actions within the system.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The system provides the ability to manage multiple projects.

RECORD INTERFACE
Records are defined as different type of resources that users can add/edit/delete/view/report and are labeled as finds, contexts, trenches, areas, sections, groups and phases.

PRINTABLE REPORTS
For each record type, all data pulled from the database can be viewed in a report window. This window can be printed for archive purposes. Ability to open multiple windows enable vertical (among different type of records) and horizontal (within a group of records) comparisons. Attached record files (photos, documents, illustrations, etc.) can also directly be browsed within a report window.

DYNAMIC RECORD PROPERTIES
Record properties can be managed via the category tabs. Any defining property such as type, material, function, etc. can be dynamically added to the system.

SECTION MAPPING
Contexts can now be linked to a section by pinning its position on a section map. Later, users can browse to relevant contexts directly from the section map itself.

DOCUMENT UPLOAD
Any number and type of file can be attached to any record. The system automatically creates the file system hierarchy within a project and links each file to a record via its ID. Users can simply drag and drop files to the resource pane and the system will configure the rest.

DOCUMENT BROWSER & EXPLORER
All files can also be browsed either through the file pool or the directory explorer. The content can be filtered through various parameters.

SEARCH
The system provides four different types of search:

  • Advanced search: keyword based search for all possible form fields
  • SQL-based search: queries can be added to execute manual searches
  • Label search: finds, contexts and trenches can be queried by record codes
  • Filters: record tables can be filtered through dynamic properties

MESSAGING & NOTES
A private message channel among users as well as a global-notes/tasks module is present within the system.

STATISTICS
ArcheMIS introduces a statistics interface through which users can obtain in depth statistical feeds regarding their data for research and publication purposes.

DOCUMENTATION
Documentation process is now automated as museum reports, find tickets, archive sheets, etc. can be dynamically generated through the form interface.

TAGS
Any number of user-defined tags (think tags in blogs) may be attached to any record within the system. This enables

  • Grouping
  • Filtering
  • Additional descriptive fields

TRANSFER LOGS
Find or context based transfer forms can be submitted to follow the transfer path and ensure the current location of any find.

COUNTERS
Counters notify users of the next code for each find, context and trench.

PLUGINS
Tools such as Harris Matrices, Plan Browser and Record Maps can easily be integrated into the system as additional plugins.
